Five Things About Chicago
5 Chicago highlights after being there this past weekend (in no particular order):
1. The Chicago River (which flows in the opposite direction than it once did).
2. The exterior (and name!) of the Carbide and Carbon Building and the interior of the Oriental Theater.
3. John Sharp's cello solo during the Chicago Symphony's performance of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2.
4. The singer at Carmine's who could sound like Frank Sinatra or Louis Armstrong.
5. This thing in Millennium Park.

1. One of my favorite stories ever. But when it rains really hard in Chi-town, the river resumes its natural lakeward flow.
2. A close companion to the not quite as elaborate Stone Container Building, just up the street and around the corner on Wacker Drive.
3. Very cool that you went to see the CSO. We had a recording of Van Cliburn playing that piece with the Chicago Symphony. Still one of my favorites.
4. I'll take your word for it.
5. Yeah, the Bean is very interesting. Great to stand and watch the crowd there.
2. Wish I'd seen it. A reason to go back someday.
3. Emanuel Ax was my pianist. It goes without saying he was good.
