What's Next? Pork Rinds and Ripple?

I talked with Danny yesterday up at college and all I can do is lament. You hope this kind of thing never happens. It breaks your heart when your child tells you. You spend your life trying to instill good values, teach them to take the high road, to not go, you know - apeshit - the second they're out of your sphere of influence. But nooooooo.

He told me this past weekend he had to go out and buy something because "you never have it around the house" and he "really wanted it." Dying for it, in fact.

Ritz crackers and Cheese Whiz.

He was dying for Ritz crackers and Cheese Whiz. He's up there - at college - eating Ritz crackers and Cheese Whiz. I'm paying good money for a healthy, 3-squares-a-day meal plan and he's up there feasting on Ritz crackers and Cheese Whiz.

Guess I'll just go and cancel that tofu and watercress care package.

Ha. You can always send that care package to my college daughter. She is finding healthy foods in the '3 squares' provided by the university non-existent. Personally though, I'm with your son on the Ritz and Cheese Whiz. Yummm.

Boy, does this sound familiar. At the University of Oregon, dorm kids can convert their unused meal points at the end of each week into whatever they want down at the food court "convenience store." On Sunday, you see lots of kids carrying bags of loot -- chips and cookies and candy. It's inspiring.

I'm with you, Kem. It's about value. I'd go through Ritz crackers and Cheese Whiz in a few minutes. Just a small amount of tofu and watercress would last me years.

Danny says the food at York College is pretty good. He's also an omnivorous eater so I know he's not subsisting on just pizza and fries. The buffet York provided families on move-in day had its fair share of healthy foods.

Neither Maryland, where my older son goes, nor York College permit the students to convert their unused meal points to anything. It's use it or lose it.

I'm not big on cheese, Rob, so for me the Cheese Whiz would last till the cows come home. Substitute French onion dip though...

Ritz crackers and French onion dip aaaahhhhhh....

I'd prefer crunchy peanut butter to Cheese Whiz or French onion dip but none of them are particularly safe around me.

I hope that's your toughest problem while he's at college.

But Cheez Whiz IS some pretty awful stuff.
