Bird Notes
Saw first hummingbird of the season at the feeder yesterday.
Heard first wood thrush this year singing in the woods coming out of work last night.
An indigo bunting dined at my feeder this morning.
Still no bluebirds.
Sorry for the bird crap. But a blog is sort of a diary and this is for the record.

I like your bird stuff. Bummer about your bluebirds. Mine are finished with their first clutch of the season. Three successful fledges. Buntings, goldfinches, robins, red-winged blackbirds, and grosbeaks are gone, though. Lots of purple martins around to keep us company. Keep meaning to put something up for them. They're such a cheery lot.
We've got lots of birds, but no humming birds, and have never had an indigo bunting in our yard. They are so pretty.
Enjoy.

A week or so ago, a chance comment about crows made me look up something about their population, and I came across links that talked about the severe impact of West Nile virus on them. Yesterday, I heard a story on NPR that discussed the wider impact of WNV on other species, including bluebirds. One story here, though I wouldn't be surprised if you've read about this already: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/05/070516161231.htm
