Wednesday Dottles A Day Late
1. Rob blogged that he was looking forward to seeing The DaVinci Code in the theater. I opined that I would see it only if it got really good reviews. Well, the movie premiered at Cannes last night and the reviews are beginning to roll in. It's not looking like I'm seeing it in the theater. And since I've already read the book, which I thought was OK but not great, I may not see the movie at all. I guess I'll be getting my Holy Grail instruction from Monty Python.
2. Hey all you people who think The DaVinci Code is blasphemous and insulting to Christianity... where have you been for the last three years when the book spent most of that time Number 1 on the New York Times bestseller list? The book didn't grab your interest but now the movie is concerning you? Pay attention why don't you?
3. Thrillers better than The DaVinci Code: The Company, The Day of the Jackal, The Guns of Navarone, The Maltese Falcon. These are off the top of my head; there are others.
4. Yo, Congress, just so you know... a law unenforced is not a law.
5. I hear the female given name "Nevaeh" is now more popular than "Amanda". Nevaeh is "heaven" spelled backwards. Well I guess it worked for Bob and Eve.
6. Been planning the family summer vacation: New York City, Cooperstown, Saratoga Springs, Lake George.
7. To the 30 percent that still approve the job W is doing as president: would you let the rest of us know exactly what it would take for you to disapprove of the job he is doing?
8. If you had to pick one classic book from literature as your favorite of all time, which one would it be? For me it's David Copperfield.
9. Could someone please help Britney Spears to the exit door of pop culture?
10. I need lunch.
1) I'm going anyway.
2) The vast majority of the protesters haven't read the book and won't see the movie. The Life of Brian taught them nothing. Making a big deal out of it ensures that it will be a big deal.
3) I didn't read Guns or The Company. I agree on Falcon and Day of the Jackal. I would also mention the Bourne series.
4) I know no one named Nevaeh or Eve.
6) Love to see Cooperstown some day.
8) Dracula. I'm in the middle of The Old Curiosity Shop for the last year or so. Keep putting it down. Dickens is an acquired taste I haven't acquired yet.
10) Had a pizza a couple of hours ago.
1. I doubt I'll be seeing the Da Vinci Code. I don't maybe when it comes to TNT.
2. Kem, if I recall correctly, you were reading this book when I first started reading your blog. Blasphemy never entered my mind.
3. Hey, any Stephen King book.
4. Yeah, really.
7. A couple days ago, the car ahead of me at a stop light had some bumper sticker that showed the person still supported W. I considered throwing the car in park, running up to the other car, tapping on the window, and saying, "you're kidding, right?" But, the light turned green.
8. I can't think.
10. I had a cheeseburger with a slice of onion, pickle and mustard, fries on the side, coconut creme pie, for dinner.
2. You have an amazing memory, Marie. I had to search my own blog to confirm it. My boss does that too: remember things I've said and done that I've forgotten.
3. Rob, I recommend both "Guns of Navarone" and "The Company" although the former may not still be in print. (The movie's good, too, with David Niven, Anthony Quinn, and Gregory Peck.) I've read several Ludlum books including, I think, "The Bourne Identity".
10. I'm not big on cheese or coconut.
K-
Loved the movie. Liked the sequel (Force Ten from Navarone), too. Going to have to look for the books.
