Had to run an errand this morning. Pulling away from a strip mall - the archetype of the Maryland suburbs - I chanced to see these bad boys hanging out in the parking lot. (A whole bunch more were up in the air.) Completely oblivious to vehicular comings and goings, I had to be careful not to run over any. Don't know what they're doing so far inland. Raucous, too...

I don't know when they took over the universe but these things were only at the beach when I was a kid. They're everywhere, now. Love the Green Heron.
You wanna hear inland? They're in Springfield, Illinois - mostly in shopping center parkling lots. How did they get here? And, why? Alfred Hitchcock, anyone?
Wow, Marie, you win. I'm about 100 miles from the ocean and we have scads of them here. I agree with Rob... they have taken over the universe.
