Pockets of Panic

in | | Comments (1)

S- just called from a gas station. She left her job early because there was an announcement that all Maryland gas stations would be closing at 4 PM today and she needed gas.

Evidently pandemonium has set in at many central Maryland stations. She said that at several statoins everyone is lining up to buy gas with lines of cars extending down the street waiting to fuel. I checked the website of a local news radio station to find as the main headline:

Governor's Office: Rumors Of Gas Station Closings Are Just Rumors
No shortage of gasoline supply reported in Maryland.

The first whiff of Maryland panic.

I probably shouldn't try to make this parallel, but, after 9/11 the stock exchange was shut down to prevent a panic sale of stocks. Why don't they do something to prevent this situation (for lack of a better word) on gasoline?
