Congratulations?

I was checking out how things were going over at BlogMadness 2003 and I discover that Plugs and Dottles was offered congratulations for being a randomly selected top seed. My sense of excitement is underwhelming.

I'll be voting for you in the next round--I'm glad I lost because I wasn't looking forward to going up again you. Good luck.

Thanks, TW, for your vote. FWIW, I think you had the better blog entry.

I'm beginning to have second thoughts about entering this contest. While the organizers have done their best to set things up fairly, there's little that can be done to normalize a highly-visited blogger competing against a less-frequently visited blogger. There are also no guidelines for comparison. So did I lose because a popular blogger sent all his friends over to vote for him, because people objectively consider his entry better than mine, because people don't like me or my blog, or because surfers are just randomly hitting buttons? There's no way to know and the very real possibility that I'll have my nose out of joint because voters deem my entry inferior for who knows why. And does it even make sense to compare blog entries about such a hodgepodge of disparate subjects?

Kem, I can appreciate how you feel. Although, I must say, while I was sorry to lose the first round, I understood (having read it) that I was up against a good entry -- and, in my case at least, it appeared that the voting was done fairly. (How was THAT for a long sentence?)

I must admit, though, that I was pleased to see that both TW and I got a bye in the elimination round! So at least we are not totally out of the contest yet.

I've read your post -- I'll have to go check who you are up against. Hopefully, it will be one of the previous ones I wasn't all that impressed with so I can vote for you in good conscience!
