I came out from work this evening just after a front had finished pushing through the area. In the east, a rainbow gradually appeared and became more and more vivid.

I love rainbows too. Something about them invokes a very peaceful feeling. Whenever my 77 year old mom sees a rainbow, she always says that's God's way of reminding us that he'll never flood the world again. Well, now that I've gotten totally religious in your blog, Kem, feel free to delete this if it's not your thing.
Marie, I think peaceful is the right word and because they're so infrequent (How many do you see in a year? One? Maybe two?) they're something nice you really weren't expecting (like when you come down in the morning and the coffee is already made).
I'll delete it if you want but all comments are enjoyed religious or not. (Actually I would have found your comment less effective if your mom always said "Rainbows are due to the refraction of white light and two internal reflections inside the water droplets.)
